World Diabetes Day – 2022

14 Nov, 2022

On the birthday of Frederick Banting, the discoverer of insulin, we celebrate World Diabetes Day.
It is estimated that about 3 million people in Poland suffer from diabetes (mostly type 2 diabetes), of which 0.5 million are undiagnosed and do not take proper treatment. Patients with diabetes die prematurely due to chronic complications of the disease (including stroke, myocardial infarction, cardiovascular complications). A patient who develops diabetes at age 50, on average, loses 6-7 years compared to his peers without diabetes.

The main causes of type 2 diabetes are lack of exercise and obesity. National consultant in diabetology – Prof. K. Strojek appeals, “Just as we go once a year with our car for a technical inspection, so once a year everyone should do a check-up for themselves. Such a technical inspection of our body”.

Let’s take care of our health as regularly as we take care of our car according to Prof. Strojek’s appeal, remembering the important difference that we can always replace the car, and we have only one health.
